Initial steps
Safety First
Wild animals, even young ones, can be dangerous.
Remember to always keep yourself safe when considering approaching any wild animals.
If you are near or on a road, remember to watch carefully for approaching traffic and never assume that everyone will treat an animal or bird rescue as an emergency and slow down.
Once you are sure it is safe, just remember that humans are predators to wild animals and birds, so approach slowly and quietly.
If you do find a baby bird that you think may need to be rescued, this flowchart from the Perth Wildlife network, provides excellent guidelines on what to do.
